We've been able to enjoy the novelty of a snow shower around here. In May. An almost-record-breaking event. Here is my lone brave tulip peeking out for a few days:
And the same tulip trying to hide from the cold and snow:
Usually a snow around here means one thing: my dear husband breaking into Bing Crosby's "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" at the first sight of snow, in his rich, warm vibrato. We've enjoyed this song a lot this past winter.
But even with the untimely relapse into the cold and gray, there's still something pretty about it, short-lived as it was (it's almost gone, now that it's mid-afternoon...) And with our backyard in a swamp-like state, and our beloved sump pump firing off several times an hour, I'm realizing the answer to prayer in last year's drought passing.
Some mysterious friend of mine dropped off a surprise May Day goodie bag with this lovely verse:
Job 38:25-27
Who has cleft a channel for the flood, or a way for the thunderbolt, to bring rain on a land without people, on a desert without a man in it, to satisfy the waste and desolate land and to make the seeds of grass to sprout?
These chapters in Job are some of my very favorite.
verses 37-38:
Who can count the clouds by wisdom, or tip the water jars of the heavens when the dust hardens into a mass and the clods stick together?
I get excited over rain (and even snow!)...I think because it's such a tangible reminder of our Sovereign God.
There. I'm done celebrating the snow. I have several other bits of random news that have been on my soundtrack/video reel of the week...in no particular order:
- Yesterday the kids and I saw two ducks meandering down the the yards in the 37 degree weather on our street (perhaps looking for the marsh that is now our backyard.)
- Our triple-duty dental visit a few days ago...again, thankful for no cavitities!
- Along with that, new toothbrushes to replace the plethora of old ones that were overly-worn, and ... had changed owners a few times because of their popularity.
- Sadly, our 6th fish has passed on. We've all agreed to not put any more fish lives in danger by inviting them into our house. At least for awhile.
- Jada has had the odd habit of chewing food...and chewing. And still chewing a half hour later.
- When she has food in her mouth and can't help but to laugh, this cute little snort-giggle comes out.
- After a really rough few weeks with a lot of tears, whatever was plaguing Jada (maybe her molars?) left her, and we enjoyed her running around and shouting, "Yep-peeeee!!" over and over.
- Cami giggling out of control because the shuffling noise that cards make apparently was hilarious.
- Calvin (coming inside, soaked from head to toe) exclaimed incredulously: "Someone was spraying me!" --well, who was it, you're wondering? I was sure puzzled as to which of my other not-as-awnry children would do this to him. When further questioned, Calvin tattled on...himself.

So, since your fish phase is over might I interest you in a hedgehog? A chinchilla? A kitten or four? ;o)
Totally understand how the toothbrushes make the rounds, a gross but very true fact of life I think when you possess more than two children. As long as the teeth are getting brushed we just won't worry about it. There are only so many battles to be fought. ;o)
:) Love these tidbits from your sweet little crew!
