I'm glad for December quickly approaching and some time to celebrate in a special way Christ's coming to earth to redeem fallen mankind. As a kid growing up, I was taught the true meaning of Christmas, although I became completely consumed with the excitement of Christmas presents and the accompanying greed. And even though any child gets excited over gifts, I'm attempting to have a more constant emphasis on the real Christmas with our kids, with our daily Advent activities (although we still have some traditional things planned).
Here's our 2012 list (which out of necessity will be highly flexible):
1. Open & read The Crippled Lamb Begin Jesse Tree Devotional
2. Open Nativity finger puppets
3. Listen to Christmas carols
4. Taste test chocolate chip varieties (dark, milk, semi-sweet, mint, etc.)
5. Peppermint tea party, open & read Legend of the Candy Cane
6. Open & play Nativity Go Fish (printable game found here)
7. Open Song of the Stars (a beautifully written picture book on creation welcoming the Savior)
8. Make frozen ice globes (tutorial here), watch The Christmas Toy
9. Open & read Christ is Born
10. Snuggle on the couch and read books together
11. Read Gingerbread Boy and bake ginger cookies
12. Supper by candlelight
13. Deliver Christmas breads to neighbors
14. Christmas lights tour--eat popcorn balls in the car
15. Bake cookies (and possibly make a wreath ornament)
16. Sing Christmas hymns at the nursing home
17. After school tea & cookie party
18. Nativity Story movie--part 1

I've been working on our list too! I love those snowglobes--hoping the weather is wintry and agreeable (we hit 60 today!). And I might have a new book to recommend for you (I'm awaiting its arrival, but it is another retelling from the Bible but with some unique artwork called "scherrenschnitte"--has to do with paper cutting . . . let me know if you want the link!).
Have fun making memories with your bunch!! ;o)
These sound wonderful, Anna! May your family be blessed with many, many special memories!!
