six years

 My Calvin.
Six years ago you joined our family, making us four.  We enjoyed your boyishness so much, along with your contagious smile and your calm demeanor.  This is you at two months, just before you sprouted your first curl:
After some tumultuous toddler years, you've grown into a spirited kid who can make any ordinary situation fun and interesting.  You are the one who loves to get a reaction from people....sometimes by picking on your brother & sisters, but mostly just making us laugh.  You are master of the unusual:
And you are crazy-good at your headstands.
Life with you is getting less intense and more funny.  When your dad brushes your teeth, you break into spontaneous dance, and you'll often come up with some eyebrow-raising ideas that involve climbing, balancing or teetering on something you shouldn't be on.  Or filling and dumping unapproved water experiments.  You march to the beat of your own drum.
You at six are bringing unexpected joys every day.  And while you are whole-heartedly embracing childhood and all that it entails, I can see some good qualities being shaped in you, like your responsibility with chores, and your desire to do the right thing.
We want you to keep doing the right thing...and more importantly we want this to be fueled by a genuine saving faith in Christ.  Keep practicing your reading, so you can read and understand God's Word on a deeper level.  And keep living life to the fullest--for the Lord.
We love you so much, Buddy.  Happy birthday to our Calvinator.

You have such a beautiful way with words, Anna and I can just imagine how precious these birthday entries will be as the years go along. Happy day to your spunky boy--God certainly put in a little something extra special when he made Calvin and it will be a joy to see how He chooses to use it! :)
