randomness from our week

My friends Janna and Kathy are doing this fun thing called Project 365...snapping a photo every day for a year, in order to capture everyday life in the process.  I'm not doing it...successfully, at least.  Yet.  But I have plans to work towards that, at least in picking up the camera more often.
Here are a few shots from the last week:  Cami's Lego Nativity:
Our "Izzy-and-Polly" duo is now simply "Izzy."  Polly had an intimely death on New Years Day.  It was a chance to teach Cami about God's sovereignty over life and death.  And even after that eventful day, Izzy had another close call after Jude announced proudly that he fed the fish.  (Betta fish, you see, can die from overeating.)  I rushed to the scene of the crime to find a sleeping fish (not floating, thankfully!) with a pile of fish food floating on top of the water.  I quickly refreshed the water and scooped out all the fish pellets...so Izzy is still surviving, albeit more sleepy than normal.
I don't need to explain this one...boys will be boys.  And my wood floor looks like it.
Calvin's quote of the week:  "How do you spell 'Happy Hollerdays?'
This was a fun little craft project my mom and I worked on together, for her Sunday school class--a life-sized Goliath (with dwarf arms and other proportional problems...*ahem*)  My mom and I are more mathmatically-minded than artistic...but putting our brains together, along with a cartoon picture we were trying to copy, and a tape measure, calculator (really!), we came up with this big dude.  After spending something like 4 or 5 hours on it, Jude looked at it and said, "But you forgot to make David!"  At least her Sunday school class was impressed, and were able to understand how big he was...and we enjoyed some time together.  Cami got in on a little of the fun too.
 My buddy Jude...
We're starting light-duty preschool at home this week, to warm up for next year.  Some of his fun 3 1/2-year-old words:  smarshmallows, smustache, slushy joes, and pe-pe-pecause.  He's a genius with legos at this age and will entertain himself for hours some days.  And he's a sweetheart with his little sis.  I often catch them hugging or kissing...sporadically fighting.  But they get along well, and days are pretty peaceful with them.
Hope you have a great week, and stay WARM. :)

Love Cami's sweet little nativity! And Goliath is awesome--what a great way to help kids visualize his size. I'm thinking I've heard the term "smarshmallows" thrown around these parts as well, so Jude is in good company. ;o)

Holler-days indeed! That sums it up. :-) I'm with you on "trying" the picture a day, looks like you're off to a great start! And Goliath is so cool.
