To keep a record, Cami and I collaboratively created this fun little journal to keep pictures and little descriptions of what we saw. The pages are all different colors, and some are lined and embellished with felt, buttons, etc...bound with a simple ribbon.

nerds about birds
One fun little hobby the kids and I are getting acquainted with is bird watching. I'm giggling to myself as I write this, because years ago I used to think bird watching was, well--for the birds. But after Cami enthusiastically told me that her favorate animals were birds, we got her a little pair of binocs along with this cute children's bird guide for Christmas...and at a friend's recommendation, we recently bought a bird feeder & seed with their Christmas money. We've been having fun so far and have spotted a few dark-eyed juncos and this stunning cardinal:

We're having fun with it, and it's proven to be very educational so far. We use this great online bird guide to look up birds. You can find pictures and descriptions of all kinds of birds, seasonal maps of where they roam...you can even listen to actual recording of each bird's song. Cami gets so excited when she sees a bird, or hears a familiar song. Here's our friendly cardinal that stopped by for a brief visit looking for food after the blizzard, riding with his posse of juncos:
Hopefully more will find us with time...

Ahhhhh-love your snowy cardinal pic!! We still haven't gotten a cardinal, I see them far away, but they won't come close. So happy your bunch is enjoying their feeder! Love the idea of Cami's bird journal--what a great way to keep track!
