Independence, Flax, and Glass Confetti

Cami is on the way to becoming independent in more ways, but sometimes it's hard to know how much she can be trusted. After giving her a simple 2-step instruction sequence (go potty, get dressed), I took Calvin to the basement to play while I worked out. Twenty minutes later after she had enough time to complete the task, I checked on her to find her still washing her hands (more like playing in the water and letting it run for 15 minutes). I pointed back to her uncompleted task to get dressed and went back downstairs to the treadmill.
A few minutes later I got an announcement that she went B.M. (this is usually something so celebrate) although I was confused, she was trying to tell me something about poop on the counter and she wanted me to come look at it. In my naivete I thought she wanted me to come examine her bowel movement in the toilet, and she smeared some on the sink....well it wasn't quite like that, but there was a nice little gift waiting for me on the kitchen counter, a huge pile of Cami's cleaned-out guts...apparently the ground flax I fed her for breakfast came a little too fast...while she happened to be standing on the counter, still undressed.
And Calvin, bless his heart, contributed to the non-boredom and created his own mini-disaster during my 4-minute shower. I was upstairs getting ready and heard Cami yelling,
"Mom--Calvin's breaking that!"
"Breaking what?"
"THAT!"
Since I don't have x-ray vision I looked down the stairs to see the Christmas tree area confetti'd with shards of those cheap glass bulb ornaments. He also disassembled some of the gifts and stepped with his shoes to make the glass pieces shatter even more. Since that wasn't enough, he decided to throw another grenade while I was sweeping up. Miraculously it bounced...but at least he tried. This dynamic duo keeps me on my feet! I'm expecting little Jude to be peaceful, calm, and content with normal activities such as playing with toys and coloring quietly.

HA! You said something about "naivete", I didn't realize it was to that extent :)

Oh, Anna!!!!! Bless your heart! I can just imagine the sweetness with which you handled these 'episodes' and it does much to teach and challenge me, for I too often do not handle these types of adventures with such grace and humor. And yes, start stocking up on crayons, books, and quiet toys now because there is no doubt that Jude MUST like those things!! Right?? RIGHT?? No doubt!! :)

My first response when I read the last paragraph was "Good luck with that!" Then I open up the comment box and my mom typed the EXACT same thing. LOL

reading this made me laugh so hard i cried =) i often share cami and calvin's little adventures with 2 of the ladies on my squad and this will be another story to share =) kent's mom always tries to hide flax in the meals she makes at family gatherings and laura ALWAYS makes a comment about its ability to clean you out quickly which cami has proved its true.
