lookin fine at nine

Look at you--our big boy. The little brother who's NOT little. Today it is your birthday again; you're now halfway to 18, and I'm loving the young man you are becoming.
You're often quiet and thoughtful. I admire your studious nature when you're working on homeschool, concentrating on some task with your hand on your forehead. Your favorite subject is math, but you seem to excel in other areas too--reading, piano, basketball. You are understanding more of God's Word. You're capable with chores and learning to be diligent and thorough in that area.
You continue devoted in your study of God's amazing creation, and this time of year you like to inspect for signs of the changing seasons--signs of your beloved toads emerging (not yet, you told me, with the April snow and chill we've been having).
And while you're not overly affectionate, you'll endure a hug or even a kiss from your mom when forced. You continue to be a "low maintenance" child, solving problems on your own when they come up.
Overall you are a wholehearted kid who is--I hope--learning the truly important things. Our prayer for you continues to be the goal of living a life for the glory of God. Knowing the saving power of Jesus and the difference He makes in a life.
We love you, Bud. May your outward handsomeness be a reflection of an inner man that's on fire for Christ.
