Something so strange that I can't wrap my mind around lately is the brevity of a season. "Life is a vapor," so the saying goes--and I've been constantly reminded of this these last 6 weeks of summer breezing by. I had such good intentions, too, of having a purposeful, learning-filled summer for the kids. But I have to keep realistic expectations too. It's easy to forget all the happenings that get squeezed into a day...here's what's been keeping us busy lately:
Rambunction Conjunction: It's what you get when you put together four busy little people under the same roof. This morning I heard a disturbing cry of distress coming from the boys' room where the kids were playing together. It sounded a little muffled like someone might have been trapped so I raced in there, flipped on the lights (it was dark for some reason), and I discovered Jada toddling around chewing on legos, Cami meowing in a convincingly scared tone behind a make-shift tent, and both boys sitting up in unison, waking up from their pretend naptime on the floor, wearing pull-ups on their heads. I was relieved everyone was safe, albeit abnormal. . .
Photographers in training: the kids practiced their photography skills on each other. My son seems to have a condition that has turned his skin orange and distorts his face. In real life, he has recently acquired a 'swimmer's ear' ..a little infection we have to take care of with antibiotic drops. He was quite cheerful about going to 'urgent care'...probably because he got to go with me while everyone else went to bed.
Sweet Pea likes all things soft and snuggly, but especially this pink bear. She smiles, and reaches out to grab it and pull it in close so she can snuggle it close to her, cooing and rocking it just like a little mama cuddling her baby...I love seeing these little glimpses of the Creator's design. Girls and boys are VERY different.
She has also been walking a lot. Just in the last week she finally decided that walking was a more efficient method of transportation than speed crawling. Her choppy little gait is so delightful to watch, along with her clumsy tumbles now and again. Learning to walk is quite the feat!
There's been plenty else going on...a quick day trip out West to the farm, and to swim. Jude's fingertip was punctured by a hungry cat guarding his food. We all had fun. Except for the cat bite. Jada loves the water a little too much and refused the life jacket and the floaty device. Turns out she can be quite opinionated about some things. We had a nice restful not-going-anywhere sort of day today. Cami dressed up in this interesting outfit:
And here's our date night to celebrate 13 years together, a couple weeks late. I'm wishing I photoshopped a tan onto my legs. Oh, well. We had fun going to a super delicious and classy restaurant. And we finished it off with a heated battle of mini golf.
After so many years, he is still sweeping me off my feet.
Hope you have a sweet week too. ;)

And love the picture of you and Andy--you look quite classy (and super-model tall and thin!) for your classy restaurant. ;o)
Awwww--love your anniversary pics! And lol to the first pic--if that doesn't paint a picture of "life" I don't know what does. :)
