weakened by the weekend

Friday morning all 6 of us piled in our mini-van for a fun-filled weekend in Des Moines. We visited friends, stopped by the farmer's market, explored the Adventure.land waterpark and theme park, and saw the local zoo and the Living History Farm--a 500-acre outdoor museum that has an historic town and a nature trail that takes you to 3 historical farms. It even includes live actor-narrators in costume to give you the full effect. All of it was super fun, even with the lack of sleep and cold bug that snuck along with us. Some of of the highlights of our adventurous weekend:

Our post-picnic sprint to the car during a torrential downpour (and getting soaked while buckling kids in)

Andy's semi-rainy golf outing during a non-napping afternoon playdate session for me & the kids (boy, were they wound up!)

Trying to coax the kids to sleep that first night while a popcorn of bouncing, squeaking and giggling came from their side of the room

Hotel swimming with Daddy

Endless rides at the theme park, waiting 1/2 hour for a few sandwiches and finishing the day worn out, sweaty and thirsty (a sign of a good day)

More walking through the zoo, another picnic, and more and more walking through the Living History Farm. . .after which Calvin informed us that he wasn't wearing any underwear.

The grande finale? A super quiet drive home. ..and I have a feeling more long naps to follow this week. We should really do this more often.

Missed your smile while you were gone and I can only imagine the parental exhaustion after accomplishing such a feat! But I'm sure you created lots of fun memories for your gang. The pic of Jada sucking her thumb looked ever-so-Jude. ;o) The living history farm looks likes a great place to check out--I'll have to get the actual name from you sometime!
