the joy of having a boy

Cami (trying some new stunt on make-shift roller skates): Calvin, hold my hand! You don't want me to fall and crack my head open--do you?
Calvin (thinking about it for a second): Yeah.
I'm being real honest with you all, we've really struggled this week with the Calvinator and his unmatched temper. Have you seen the T-Rex on Jur.assic.Park? That's pretty much what he's like when he's set off. I've been trying to figure him out since his infancy, and there's no answer in sight..other than the fact that the Sovereign God and Lord of the universe made him unique. I'm trying to envision these qualities when he's all grown up turning into good things like having a strong will to work hard and overcome...and I'm praying that he will be a godly leader like his dad...I'm thinking Proverbs 16:32 will be necessary in teaching him to tame his temper. "He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty." ...I also need to be diligent in disciplining and settting boundaries for him.
On a positive note, we did have some breakthroughs today in the way I handle/discipline for his tantrums. When he's convinced he'll be punished for his unreasonable tantrum, he can shut it off...so we'll be working on that. In the meantime be sure to tip-toe past our house so you don't set off my little T-Rex. ;)

Good photo of his "ornery face", when he sticks out his lower jaw. Initially was kind of cute, although used way too much lately...

Maybe it's the weather Anna . . . Emmett has also had a fierceness about him lately, stalking off, muttering to himself, throwing things, slamming doors . . . We're definitely struggling in the anger management area also. :oP

I have a big T-Rex in my house too......and also a triceratops and velociraptor (now AS nasty as the T-Rex but a challenge none the less). Will be remembering to pray for you in this daily 'battle'.....I'm right there with you! Mothering has shown me time and again just HOW MUCH I need the love and wisdom of the Lord!

It is such a blessing to be a grammy now... =) Will pray, too, for wisdom for you! Not sure I ever got it all figured out, but thankfully, the Lord raised them in spite of me! =) Hugs to you. We now have the big tub of "Polly Pockets" out and they are playing quitetly. Thanks for letting me have them today. =) They are growing up sooooo fast!

Oh sweet girl...this is why the Bible says, "TRAIN them up"! It's a process. I agree with your dear MIL...God raises them in spite of ourselves! If we could only have the wisdom of old age and the energy of our youth at one time...but then...we wouldn't turn to the Lord nearly as much. Continue to pray for them and enjoy each stage they are at, if you can. There will be a day you'll wish for them back back...for just a day. (as testified by Sandy having your crew for the day!) Prayin' ya through!

Hang in there, dear Anna! Someday you will look back on this time and smile. Like Sandy says - the Lord raises them! PTL we have Him to go to for help!
