making herself comfortable

For the last few weeks Andy and I have had to endure numerous complaints from our first-born about being uncomfortable. Getting herself dressed takes at least 20 minutes, often making us late, because every item of clothing (even her flannel PJ's) are unbearably uncomfortable. Of course, this makes everyone uncomfortable listening to these persistent and sometimes convincing claims, which often escalate to crying/tantrum mode. Since it is pretty unusual for my almost-4-year-old to be so high-maintenance (after all, there is only room in the house for one tantruming child at a time), I noticed how she seemed a little touchy and just tired in general. (The above snapshot is her asleep while watching the Food Net.work late afternoon.) It was a frustrating problem to solve. She gave up her nap cold turkey a month or two ago, mainly because Little Bro moved into her room and naptime became playtime. Once in a great while she would nap in our bed, although we've recently discovered a little corner of the house that is much more purposeful for this use: Don't judge me. It's a perfectly safe and comfortable dark closet with enough oxygen at least for a few hours. With the sound machine on, and her little nest inside, it's really a cozy hideout for a kid. She likes her little spot, so we'll keep it as long as it works. We have some catching-up to do after being short on sleep for so long. The complaints of discomfort are still hourly, and she still comes out of her room in the morning in her birthday suit.

No judgement here! I'm just impressed that you have a closet floor that isn't full of stuff like all the closets in my house! Yay for finding a napping spot that works!!!

You gotta do what works. ;o) And I would agree with Kathy--if my closet floors were that clean I think I would designate a closet for each child. :o) I hope Cami gets all caught up on her sleep!

Well, I for one am IMPRESSED!!! Impressed that you have a closet that isn't packed to the max! Poor Camie...she'd have a hard time finding a nesting place in my house. Every closet it stacked to the top with who knows what? Cute post!

Maybe she's ready for spring and some loose little sundresses?
